2021 Honda Civic Type R

If you need a hot hatchback to shake things up, this 2021 Honda Civic Type R may have you ready write a check. These cars had been notoriously difficult to find for quite a while, with high demand and obvious supply chain issues. It’s definitely gotten easier to find them, but maybe you want one with more boost. Who doesn’t?

In stock form the 2021 Honda Civic Type R has a turbocharged, 2.0 Liter Inline 4 good for a little over 300 brake horsepower. This certainly isn’t the most extreme example, but man it’s crazy how much power manufacturers are safely getting out of such small displacement engines. I don’t know if this makes me happy or sad, but thanks, Technology.

In stock form, this is good for a 0-60 in around 5 seconds if look at both Motortrend’s and Car and Driver’s tests. There’s a bit of variation between the two, so your mileage may vary. This Type R should absolutely book it though.

The current owner is claiming wild performance with over 400 wheel horsepower and over 400 lb-ft of torque. That is one aggressive tune. To get there, it’s outfitted with a full kit of PRL Motorsports upgrades. You can check out their catalog and specs for the FK8 generation here.

  • PRL High Volume Intake
  • PRL Titanium Turbocharger Inlet Pipe
  • PRL Billet Intercooler and charge pipe upgrade kit

2001 Honda Civic Type R Interior

Nobody would accuse the Type R’s interior as subtle or understated. I don’t think the heavily red interior contrasted with the blue exterior works for me, but it doesn’t really matter what I think. This car interior is designed to catch your eye.

Apart from the seats, the red leather shift knob and red carbon fiber kit add an extra level of pop, in case you needed that. The carbon fiber kit does look pretty slick, to be fair.

I do find the stark difference between the front and back seats pretty funny, though. That doesn’t make it a bad thing, it just really pops out from this angle. The red seat belts are cool. Not sarcastically – always been a sucker for vibrant seat belts.

The very tried and true Honda gauge cluster. Don’t break what isn’t broken. I wish this was still analog honestly. I know it’s got some cooler features and more info than it otherwise would, but even the German fan that I am, the red-gauged analog Honda cluster is nostalgic for me.

Exterior Rundown

This is an extremely, potentially overly aggressively styled car. At least it’s not generic, and that should be commended. Apart from normal Civic Type R things, you can see the other half of the red carbon package matching well with the Brembo calipers.

This is sitting on Eibach Pro lowering springs and 18″ Works Wheel ZR10’s, making room for some beefy 265/35/18 Continental Contact Sports.

If a super fast, rowdy hatchback is what you need, it’s probably going to be harder to find a better setup than this one. In the current market, and with the low miles, the $47,000 is within the average range. If the mods are what you want anyway, then this could be a really good deal.

I’m not sure if I’d personally rock this, but I’d absolutely want to drive it and could change my tune. At the close to $50k price point, there are a lot of interesting options. See more Japanese options here, including this Nissan GT-R for about the same price (not the same reliability though… ). To find out more, and drive this home, check the Facebook posting.
